In most states they have to pay around 17% - 20% of their income for child support. You must be behind quite a bit for it to be $3000 a month. Or else you're being screwed big time by a lawyer. Check out the examples at http://www.pacode.com/secure/data/231/chapter1910/s1910.16-1.html
