: : : : You act as if the companies are doing this for no reason, if in fact that many even are. The jobs you're talking about also are the low-level/low paying production jobs that most Americans refuse to work at. It costs more for a company to bring people over and get them visas etc. bc they have to sponsor that person for a few years. So in this cost cutting profit maximization era, dont you think theres more of a reason on spending this extra money than, lets screw some Americans? Obviously these are crappy jobs that are hard to fill. Its not like its cheaper labor if they bring them over, they have to pay them that same minimum wage for that same minimum wage job.
: : : : Yeah, your brother got laid off, so I understand you have an axe to grind about these "immigrants" but theres probably more reasons for this companies actions than that. Companies just dont throw away money on retraining ppl for the hell of it.
: : : If you would have read my other post you would know that I agree with you to a point. I understand that "some" americans won't take low paying jobs. And some companies need hard workers that will take low paying jobs. But what about the people on welfare? If they "can" work physically and mentally then why not give them the jobs that these companies are bringing in people from other countries to work at? I can give you a good example right now: I know someone who knows someone who was brought here to work for a company--he got fired, was threatned to be sent back to where he was orignally from, he is now a "legal citizen" (don't ask me how i have no clue how all this went down..) but guess what? He is now on Welfar and we are supporting him. We have enough people in Usa that don't have jobs, that don't have food, that don't have medical we can't just keep supporting everyone else as well. And I do not have an axe to grind because my brother got laid off from this company or an axe to grind because my husband got laid off from another very well known local company due to "foreign trade" I just had my eyes opened up to reality and what is right and what is wrong. Welfare needs reformed, the foreign trade needs to stop, and so on and so on. And we as citizens of this country need to start taking a stand, start boycotting companies or products that do foreign trade and so on. We need to write to our congressmen, legislators, you name it, something has to change. If you lose your job tommorrow and need help do you think you will get it? Not unless you have 10 kids (lol) so..there's a lot of need for change in our country/state. LB
: : Few find the ability to take things a little out of context. The point is there are only low paying jobs available if you could find a job. These days with the average rent at 400 bucks a month or a mortagage at about 600 bucks a month, I just wonder. Could anyone survive on even 10 bucks an hour? Yeah, survive maybe. But you'd work your ass off for a place to live. Isn't the American dream dead? Ok, that said. I am now taking applications for anyone who is ready to join me on an adventure of a lifetime. I suggest we get a bus and drive to Mexico. We'll take their homes and their jobs. Hell, from reports I hear we could live on 5 bucks a day.
: And make under a buck an hour if that and most likely live in poverty. Everyone always thinks the grass is greener on the other side, but not so much when you factor in wages, costs of living, etc.
WHAT IS IT WITH SOME FOLKS ON THIS BOARD AND NO SENSE OF HUMOR? ALWAYS GOT TO MAKE IT ABOUT HOW BAD SOMETHING! I MEAN AT LEASE YOU'RE NOT LIVING UNDER A BRIDGE, EATING THE LEFT OVER FOOD IN DUMPSTERS, BARELY BREATHING, AND WONDERING IF TOMMOROW WILL EVER COME! LIGHTEN UP AND LAUGH!
