: : : : Do you think that any company within the United States of America should be able to give immigrants 'working visas' to come over here to 'work' --to give them jobs here? I'm not saying that they come here, get a visa and then get a job, I'm saying "call out" to them, bring them here to work?
: : : : Just something to think about...and give your opinions on...
: : : : LB

: : : Well, maybe that should be a wakeup call to American workers. Kick it up a notch and maybe foreigners wont be brought in to take these jobs. Just think about it, if you were running a company, wouldnt you want the best workers available to you? Believe me though, I dont want this to happen as much as anyone else, but thats just the solid truth to the matter. When i was in college there were alot of foreign ppl that i met who were worked 10 times as hard as any american student just so that they'd be accepted and get a job. The people being brought over just arent your average slouches.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I agree with Danny. This is still "The Land of Opportunity"I know a few hard working people from other countries and a lot of "Our Own" that would die if there hearts weren't a voluntary muscle

: Each of you had great comments....and I thank you for giving your opinons.
: My take on it is this:
: I agree with what someone else had written: We give the jobs to Americans first.
: Now; this subject has come up at my workplace numerous of times and as one gentleman said to me:
: "But many Americans won't take jobs for $7.00 an hour but many immigrants will...so what are you going to do?"
: True, to a point...but my husband had a great suggestion for that statement above:
: Take the people who are on welfare, who "can" physically work who say they "cannot find a job" and have them work at these jobs that are offering the pay of "$7.00" per hour (for example only) rather than bus the immigrants in to work here. And I think my husband does have a point.
: My husband lost his job due to Foreign Trade and do you know what really upsets me? We both work, have worked all of our lives, and when he lost his job we go to the Assistance Office for help. We got nothing. We were told "You make to much and do not have enough deductions to get medical, etc." Funny thing, we lost over $900 a month when hubby lost his job. His unemployment is hardly anything....but we "make to much?" We lost our medical ins. too. Now, if we had more kids we would probably be able to get food stamps, medical, etc. And I was even told flat out "If you got pregnant you would be eligible for Medical." Now please tell me ladies and gentlemen what does that tell the average person on Welfare? "Have more kids and you will get more!!!" Hmmm...Anyway... but a person that never worked a day in their lives, or paid a tax in their lives can walk into the Assistance Office and get everything under the sun. It's not fair nor is it right. And it should be a wake up call to all of us. You could lose your job tommorrow and you may not be able to get any help or assistance--even after all of the hard work you have done or even after all of the taxes you have paid.
: As far as someone stating that the immigrants should know how to speak English I could not agree with you more. My mother, for example bought a computer (very huge company....De#$) and she called for Tech support. She could not understand a word the person was saying to her. She was in tears after an hour with this man and finally said "please put me on with someone I can understand." he explained to her he couldn't because all of this company's tech support was now in India. Hmmmmm....? Well I "was" going to buy my next pc from that particular company but now that I know that, I will not. And not just because you cannot understand the techs from Tech Support but because they are not supporting "jobs in America" and they are sending them over seas.
: I am not racist, no way --no how-- but I feel like we need to make sure that every single person in the USA is taken care of first before we attempt to bus anyone in or take care of any other country, etc.
: I've already written to several politicians on all of what I've said above. I truly doubt it will make a difference but at least I know I did voice my opinions and I did try.
: I believe in the Assistance Office for trying to help people who need it. But that also should include the "working family" as well.
: I've said this before on here and I'll say it again:
: I think there should be something set up for the working family that if one spouse loses their job to do a shut down in the plant or due to foreign trade, or whatever the reason may be --as long as they didn't ask for a lay off or just quit, I think there should be a program set up for that family to recieve a package of benefits/help for a specific amount of time until they get on their feet again. This package should include food stamps and medical. The government give back to the working man/woman for once. Why not? They do it for others so why not do it for a person that loses their job?
: I was watching a TV show one time and it was about "homeless" people--a certain man was the topic of the TV show-- and what really got me was the man said "What do you think I am just a lazy bum on the street that never worked a day in his life?" And it made me think: When you do see a homeless person on TV or in real life what do "you" think of him/her? Probably the same thing I used to think....until this TV show made me open my eyes...to reality...The man went on to say he used to work, he used to have a home and a family, etc. But he lost his job due to a plant shutting down, he got un employment but it was barely enough to cover his exspenses, he then lost his home, he then lost his family, and so he lived in his car. The Assistance office wouldn't help him because he did not have a permanet address...so he got sucked into that homeless life...and that is how he stayed. It made me realize behind every face of a human being there is a life story. And not every homeless person is just a lazy bum who decided not to work. Sure you are probably thinking "he could have got a job." And you are probably right but it seemed in this man's situation all odds were against him. And sure there are some "bums" out there that "are" just lazy, but it's not the same senerio with every single one of those homeless people. I think it just makes you think a little bit.
: It's so sad...here we are worrying about Iraq and it's people and we have our very own Americans here, who need help just as much if not more.
: How much money did we spend on this war already? That money could have went to medical for people in the USA who need it. It could have put food in children's bellies who are starving right here in our very own country.
: All in all I agree we should take care of our own country first and that includes the job market as well. I think companies in USA should search and find people here to work instead of busing them in and giving them visas to work here. But on the other hand we have people here who say "I won't go work there for that amount of small money." Then what do we do then? I say have the people who can physically work and who are collecting welfare to go and work at these companies before you bring in the immigrants.
: I'm so sorry this was so long I guess this subject just gets me a little irritated and on a soapbox.
: Thanks again for your opinions...
: LB,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,You have a lot of good points.I was in your situation about 20 years ago and needed some help when the place I worked shut down.I ask for help too and was told my problem was that I had a work history. After some talking I did get help with food stamps and a little cash for two months.I was out of everything. Then with the Grace of God I gor another job and haven't been out of work sence. The system does need changing.I hope things get better for you.
