: : Kittanning vs Thomas Jefferson - This Thursday (Dec 11th) 7:30 at the Belmont Complex.

: : Although it seems not much interest in hockey is shown on kittanning's message board. Kittanning (undefeated 7-0-0) is ranked #2 in PA, has outscored their opponents 50 to 11. Thomas Jefferson (undefeated 6-0-0) ranked #1 in PA, has outscored their opponents 36 to 5. Kittannings hockey team should be OUR pride and joy! They made it to the western pennsylvania championship last year and are a heavy favorite to win states this year. Everyone come and support our boys to a win that will put them on top!!!!

: Hockey has always taken a back seat in this area. Even NHL hockey is losing its aura, the commissioner said it is boring. I am sure it is more exciting if you know the players and understand the game, especially at the high school level. But go WildcaTS !!!

: It's an easy game to understand....you try to get the puck into your opponent's net, while keeping it out of your own net. A few rules: offensively, the puck must cross the "blue line" ahead of any offensive players. If any offensive player is in that area before the puck gets in, it is "offsides" and they stop play & bring the puck outside the zone for a "face-off". Each team plays with these positions: a center, 2 wingers, 2 defensemen, and a goalie. Also, you can't shoot the puck from out of your zone clear across the ice into the opposing zone. That's "icing" and again, play will stop as they bring the puck back & have a face-off. The only time you can "ice" the puck is when you are playing short-handed (ie- one of your 5 players is sitting in the penalty box). The players usually change lines on the fly (during the play of the game) and that's a tough thing to orchestrate - without letting your opponent get a scoring opportunity. It's a very fast-paced game. Of course, there are many more rules and penalties - but if you know that much about the game, you can get a pretty good idea as to what's going on - and appreciate the timing, speed, balance, strength, & intellect needed to play it successfully.
