: Yes, paying taxes on YOUR property. But do you own the property where the rails to trails want to go? I also live in town and pay taxes, on my own propert, but because a business wants to come in and that would mean more traffic in my area, and the end to a quiet evening on my front porch. To me there is no difference!! Consider putting up a fence, like we did...
There is a fence, still doesn't erase the fact that while I'm floating in my pool, there will be people walking by two feet away. Big difference between enjoying a quite evening on a front porch and being in your bathing suit in your own back yard as hoards of people ride by. Apples & Oranges.
We are not using the rail to trails property as our own either, but having a bike trail is not something we signed up for when we bought the house. And I can only assume would decrease the value should be try to sell.
People aren't narrowminded, they just like their privacy.
