'narrow minded individuals' are those who do not know the facts. They look out and see a nice place to ride or walk. Unless they were asked to sign over their property they will never understand. They don't understand that even if you sign you must have insurance to cover anyone injured while riding the trail on "your property." It is just a 'right of way' property owners are liabible. You can find that info on rails to trails site. One individual in the boro had his own agreement wrote up and the boro has assumed the liability for his right of way. Yes, folks, we will pay for this insurance with our property tax. Just another thing AVLT failed to tell YOU. A couple other places did the same. The majority of those signing did not believe this so they will be responsible.
The trail is by my house too and so far we have found a stolen bike. There are older kids picking on the younger kids. While riding our bikes one night, 2 boys on a go cart almost hit us. The scanner has been busy with stolen bikes along North Grant Ave. Kids want to ride on the trail and those who do not have a bike are going to steal one.
We do enjoy riding our bikes on it and alot of people are using it, but like everything else there are a few kids causing trouble.
Stand your ground BSS these people don't understand. They would feel the same way if it was their back or front yard.
And about the taxes, some of us who live along the trail did go to the assessment office and ask about the taxes and offered to pay any back taxes if they were not charged. We were told that our responsibility is to pay what we are billed and if the county isn't charging it's their fault. The taxes, if owed, would only amount to a few dollars a year.
