Read the book. Mothman was what John Keel called an ultraterrestrial. He and Mary Hyre were just proffessional accuantances and despite the movie, she and most of the Mothman witnesses died within 6 months. Actually you could push that the book wasn't even much about mothman and more about the Men In Black.
