: : : : By the way, as usual, Armstrong SD is years behind everyone else. Community service has been a graduation requirement in Leechburg since 1988.
: : : So, because Leechburg has it, it's a good thing?
: : : It think it's a bad idea to make it a requirement.
: : : Yeah, I guess you're right. After all, Leechburg is such a great town. The people who live there are very civil minded. No druggies and welfare bums roaming the streets or anything...right?
: : I think that he was just pointing out that ASD, and Kittanning/FC are, as always, decades behind everyone else.
: : And no, Leechburg's no panacea, but it's head and shoulders above Ford City--at least there are businesses and restaurants there, and paved streets, and it's not nearly as crime ridden as Kittanning.
: Think again. Drugs and crime are far worse in Leechburg than they are in Kittanning or Ford City. I have friends who live in all three. Believe me, it's MUCH worse in Leechburg.
: How is the asd BEHIND Leechburg? Just because they do something doesn't mean it's a step FORWARD.
: This mentality that ANY change is change for the BETTER is just plain ridiculous.
: Do you have kids? Do you MAKE them perform community service? If so, did you do so before or after it was a "requirement"/ Do YOU perform any community service?
: It just shouldn't be REQUIRED. If they want to encourage it, fine, but it shouldn't be a requirement.
: I doubt it's even legal to make it a requirement.
Community Service is a requirement for a number of high schools in Pennsylvania. I've seen a statistic that shows about 10% of all high schools have community service as a graduation requirement. Not a common requirement, but it could become more so in the future.
