I don't disagree that spelling and grammar is important, but a core goal? I think teaching kids about managing their personal finances is much more important. Do you realize how many kids have credit card and cell phone bills that they can't afford to pay. These kids have no idea how important good credit is until it is way to late. I have younger sister that has several friends that have already filed bankruptcy. These kids are only 19 or 20 years old.

> In talking with a Kittanning High School student, I heard the words "Spelling is not a major subject". As a potential employer in the area, it most assuredly IS a major subject. If computers replace human intelligence in math and sciences, it is good input that makes one company more efficient than others and spelling is part of that input. I went to a website once - their self-proclaimed specialty was doing the best in website design for others (me?) and they had misspelled words AND words used incorrectly on their front page. Needless to say, they didn't make my list of companies to follow up with.
