I have been in many 'debates' with people regarding the importance of spelling and usage of correct grammar. Granted we live in an area which has its own 'lazy mouth' dialect (youins and downere, for example) but first impressions can be lasting and in many cases, they are all you get. If you come across as 'I don't care about spelling', you are also sending the signal that you really don't care about the quality of your product AND/OR you aren't that bright. I really never thought twice about my spelling as it has always come naturally, but started to really nitpick my correspondence once I got into the business arena. The LAST thing you want to do is to give the impression that you either don't care or you're an idiot. This should be a primary focus not only in one's business arena but in your personal contacts as well.
