: : : : : : : : : : : : I figured a new thread would suit this subject better.

: : : : : : : : : : : : There has been a lot of talk about nepotism and impropriety in school board hiring practices. If certain board members where not permitted to vote on the hiring of a teacher (or teachers), should they not also lose their vote on teachers contracts?

: : : : : : : : : : : : I think this is a huge issue.

: : : : : : : : : : : : Let's take Joe Close. Okay, so he supposedly "caught himself" before voting to hire his wife. Is he also going to be refraining from the vote on the next teachers' contract...which will directly affect HIS household income? I don't see how anybody could find this acceptable. There are others board members who's daughters, brothers, friends, in-laws...ect will directly benifit from an insider vote. I didn't mean to single Joe out, he's just the easiest target.

: : : : : : : : : : : : This is wrong. Flat out.

: : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : Why is Joe the easiest target? How about Solak. I find it amazing how quickly people want to question someones integrity in a public forum. As long as you have eleted officials, there will be nepotism. I vote to do away with the board, Hire a business manager to run the district as it should be. By common sense and the best financial options. Do away with all the special interests. The teachers in the district have no shame and will bully themselves into as much money they can strip from us. Pay as little of their insurance benefits they can. Or better yet, collect the huge insurance buy out if they have insurance thru their spouse. It is a racket. I pay nearly &300.00 per month for my share of the benefits. Let's see the teachers pony up for that.

: : : : : : : : : : How is Joe the easiest target? I think I pretty much already answered that. His wife is a district teacher. Her income is his income. It's not like he's just helping out a friend or family member. He actually stands to gain from any increase in teaching salaries.

: : : : : : : : : Got out of Dodge is not too bright. Just humor him. He's buddies with Close. I'd like to hear a conversation between those two... "uhhhm..."

: : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : Oh freddie you are so funny. #1 You do not know me. #2. I actually think those kind of comments are actually funny. I would like to be a fly on the wall in your little world. My point was that other members of the board have a vested interest also. Solak has daughters in the district. You think he may want his daughter to do the best they can. My only point was that it was stated that Joe was a easy target..I wanted to know why Jon felt that..Now I know. I actually believe in Jons opinion. I just don't think it fair to single out individuals by name, without listing others who may have a vested interest. I do not personally believe in nepotism and I NEVER hire family members of my employees. I learned the hard way about that.

: : : : : : : Hey dumbass. Solak has one daughter who is the guidance counselor at Fox Chapel I believe and the other daughter is at the same school. Did you and Joe learn geography from his wife?? THAT IS NOT IN THIS DISTRICT!

: : : : : : Thanks for correcting my error. I guess it has been a while. I did not realize they had left the district. See you can make a intelligent post and admit your mistake without calling someone a dumbass or questioning peoples intelligence. Like I said, I agree with Jon on the nepotism question, but the system in place is the system in place. But you can not assume that Joe or his wife would take advantage of the situation. The people in Joes distric have faith in him. Just because a person is a member of a union, does not mean they agree with the union in general. I am not saying I know how Mrs Close feels about the situation, but it lacks class to assume someone would take advantage of the situation.

: : : : : Who has faith in him? Did anybody actually run against him for the seat?

: : : : If people didn't have faith in him, it would be more likely that someone would run against him for the seat, huh?

: : : : Thanks for clarifying that.

: : : What's more likely is that nobody else wants bothered with it.

: :
: : I guess you should qualify that statement as your opinion. Joe IS well known and respected in our community.

: I'm sure he is well known and respected. He's a good guy. However, that doesn't mean he's qualified for the job nor does it mean he makes good decisions.

: Well know...yes.

: Respected...probably.

: Smart...not so much.

Like I said up top, you should find a better forum to air your problems with Joe. No matter how many ways you say it, he is no dummy. I don't know you so I can not truly judge your intelligence, but like I am sure I have said to you while you were under different names on this board, Worry about your board representative and we will worry about ours.
