I wouldn't recommend drug usage to anyone. It can wreck your life, but in reality most illegal drugs should be legalized. The "War on Drugs" is a joke. During the era of prohibition mob bosses controlled the streets of many U.S. cities due to the trafficking of bootleg liquor. Doesn't that sound familiar to the drug dealers of today? I'm not sure if any of you have noticed, but bootleggers aren't much of a problem these days. Overdosing on crack or heroin would be an infrequent occurance if those drugs were legalized. Overdoses usually occur because the drug is too "pure". If these drugs were legalized the strength of the drug could be regulated.

Also I have to disagree with your point on marijuana as gateway drug. you stated:

"I somewhat agree with you in principal that pot is not the evil drug many make it out to be. I disagree though on your statement that it is not a gateway drug. I bet if you polled the heavy drug users and asked which drug they took first, a VERY high percentage would respond with 'pot'."

Well, what you said may be true about Pot being a first drug of heavy drug users, but it also is true that Pot is the first exposure to an illegal drug for most everyone. If Pot is such a gateway drug why are there so many people that just use Pot. Pot is no more of a gateway drug than alcohol.
