My first point was that there really isn't much around Kittanning for young people - never really has been, probably never really will be. Therefore, kids will turn to things to entertain themselves - be it drugs, drinking, sports, etc, etc. So yes, the area is prime for a 'rash outbreak' of heavy drug use.

I somewhat agree with you in principal that pot is not the evil drug many make it out to be. I disagree though on your statement that it is not a gateway drug. I bet if you polled the heavy drug users and asked which drug they took first, a VERY high percentage would respond with 'pot'. Basically, you have a great hypocritical situation in our society today - 'pot isn't that bad of a drug even though it's illegal'. Bottom line is that it IS an illegal substance and if you use it, you ARE breaking the law. If a person who uses pot can feel that he/she is ABOVE the law since our society looks the other way with pot, why would it be any different with a little harder drug like ecstacy? And then cocaine? And then heroin? See the connection?

Very true, but what's to stop someone who trys pot just to see 'what's it's like' from taking that one step further and trying heroin or crack? And we all know it really only takes one time to get addicted to that stuff.
