I have been a part of the BAR SCENE around Rural Valley, Ford City
for years .. there has always been the Pot and Cocain crowds scattered
around .. but the Heroine/ecstacy crew have been recent newcomers in my
experiences.
It used to be .. 5 years ago .. each drug sub-culture would STEP
OUTSIDE TO FRESHEN UP during the night .. or ADJUST THEIR BUZZ during
restroom visits .. after the bars closed the potheads went to one party ..
the cokeheads to another .. us boozers just headed to Sheetz for some
Death Dogs .. or Kings or Sandy Kay's for BREAKFAST!!
I recently stumbled into a party that "HAD IT ALL" in a warped
sense .. I showed up with my rum expecting to play darts and make fun of
TV as always .. but instead, there were 3 groups huddled in the living
room .. the cokeheads had more than a few lines cut on one end of the
coffee table .. another group was huddled around heroine and ecstacy at
the other end of the coffee table .. the potheads were sitting around the
room in chairs and sofas passing a few joints and pipes
I have known LOTS of pot smokers in my day .. never participated ..
but never knew someone stoned on JUST WEED to cause problems .. a guy
drinking 5 shots of whiskey/tequila wants to fight .. a stoner giggles at
the ice in his glass for a few hours .. I'd vote to legali
Bill Cosby best defined the Cokehead crowd when he said "People on
Coke always say it just INTENSIFIES YOUR PERSONALITY .... what if yer an
ASSHOLE to start with ???" .. they rule the world in their own minds and
yack for hours about why YOU should agree !!
This heroine crowd is a different breed tho .. a bunch of Barney Bad-
Asses to start with .. they get all goofy and want to DO things .. climb
buildings .. race cars .. F&(K people up .. very intense bunch .. I only
stayed for 2 drinks and GONE .. was afraid to mention playing darts ..
might have hung me on wall for target !!
I just wonder if this new Heroine Culture is RAMPANT in Armstrong
County .. or if it just a recent trend like any other rural areas .. we
have never really been a CUTTING EDGE kinda town .. usually
trends/epidemics start other places and reach us after awhile
I certainly don't mean to downplay this problem as NOTHING .. I
really don't want to see heroine become the new IN THING to do here .. I
think the town meeting idea IS a good way to get the word out .. maybe put
some BIG ads in paper with statistics and things to look for .. being up
front with info works better and faster than word of mouth
I am just curious to see STATISTICS and NUMBERS .. comparing
population sizes and incidents of OD's .. is Armstrong county REALLY a
hotbed or just average for the nation ??
