: The problem isn't consolidation/community school, the problem is the teachers.
: Build a new school, spend the money, do whatever you want, the children of the district are still getting an inferior education. Why does Kiski have the enrollment it does? Because of the education quality, their enrollment grew.
: Look at it this way, We can accept the "Build it and the will come" attitude of ASD, or we can handle the source of the problem - building the best education program possible, and then expand to meet our students demand.
: When the education quaility of ASD rivals other school districts, I will leave my house in W. Kittanning and personally go to Dr. Kerr's office and give him my property tax with a thank-you.
: Until then, they get no new school.
I taught at Kiski for 6 years. And you are correct, they do have a fine roster of teachers. But I think your conclusion is incorrect. The reason Kiski has the enrollment it does it due to a consolidation that took place about 45 years ago. And the district has been doing well ever since. Check it out, it's true... But besides that, many of the people that reside in the district grew up in the AK Valley, work in New Ken, Monroeville, or Pittsburgh and, in general, because of their proximity to the city and surrounding suburbs the economic conditions of the district are incrementally better.
