: If you feel so bad for old people who cannot shovel their sidewalks and cannot afford to pay to have them shoveled, why don't YOU do the neighborly thing and shovel it for them?
: Sidewalks need to be shoveled. It is a safety issue for everyone. Would you rather have an elderly person break a hip on a snow-covered sidewalk?
: When I was a kid, my parents taught us right. We shoveled our own sidewalk and usually two houses on either side of us. That made it 5 houses all together. AND we didn't charge them a dime. We did it because that's what good neighbors do for each other. Later in life, when my mom needed help and we were out of the house, those same neighbors shoveled HER sidewalk. What goes around comes around.
: Be a good neighbor. In the time you've spent on this message board, you probably could have shoveled a walk or two.
I couldn't agree more! I used to do almost the entire block when I was younger. Sometimes I was lucky and received cookies or a cup of hot chocolate from the neighbors, but I did it regardless of the treats.
All our neighbors pitched in and did each other's walks, it was never a big deal. We helped them and they helped us, that's what makes a neighborhood.
