: Just a couple qick things here.
: You mentioned black holes earlier. You also mentiomed that scietific theories were based on observations. Scientists insist that black holes exist, even though one has never been found.
: All intelligent design says is that life on Earth COULD have been created by a lifeform more intelligent than our own.
: This is definately a possibility. To not recognize it as a possibility is preposterous.
: In fact intelligent design and evolution could very well coincide. Did you ever see the movie "mission to mars"?
: In this movie, the astronauts learn that there were beings from another planet who "seeded" the Earth. Then, through the evolutionary process, life as we know it came to exist.
: Yes, it is "just a movie" but it COULD explain how we came about. It IS a posibility.
: Where the "problem" lies with inteligent design is in the fact that people who are "anti religion" see this more intelligent lifeform as being the God others warship and therefore cannot allow I.D. to be introduced to the students.
: Even though it does not neccessarily refute evolution, they have to dismmiss it a "dressed up religion".
: They didn't fail to get religion introduced. They succeeded in getting it removed. In fact, at one point they got "under God" removed from the "pledge of allegience". They STILL made the kids PLEDGE, but they couldn't say "under God".
: So they coudn't make them say "God" but they had no problem with FORCING them to pledge their alegience to the United States of America.
: These courts across the country you speak of are the same courts that make the witnesses "swear to tell the truth" while holding their hand on a BIBLE.
: Also gravity is not a theory, it is a scientific law. We know how it exists, and we know why it exists. This is how we know what something will weigh on another planet before we get there.
: I understand the Big Bang theory. There is no need to expound on it. My kiddie pool example was to demonstrate other POSSIBLE explainations as to why everthing in the universe is currently moving outward. The Big Bang is a theory.
: I think you should try the kiddie pool experiment. You don't even need a pool. Use a plastic cup. You'll see what I'm talking about.
: My example said nothiung of anything moving in different directions. It merely gave other explainations that could account for the fact that everything IS moving outward.
: I don't think you're understanding the Big Bang. The theory says that "in the beginning" everything was compressed into an incredibly small area, perhaps the size of the head of a pin. It doesn't say it GOT compressed. It says it WAS compressed, that nothing happened before that. And then, when time BEGAN this small area of condensed matter EXPLODED. Not a star, there would be no stars, the matter ALL the stars are made of was supposedly IN this piece of condensed matter.
: If EVERYHING was in this small area it only makes sense that EVERYTHING should not only be still moving away from that point, but it should ALSO be EXPANDING.
: I'm not saying I don't believe ANY of these theories. I'm just saying that they are just that, "theories".
: When a "theory" goes so far as to claim something like time travel, how the universe began, or when time began, I have to question it.
: That's just me, but when the courts are making decisions as to what an entire generation of children will and will not be exposed to, I feel we ALL need to question it.
Yes, black holes have been found. First, there are different kinds of black holes. This from wikipedia: There is now a great deal of indirect astronomical observational evidence for black holes in two mass ranges:
stellar mass black holes with masses of a typical star (4 – 15 times the mass of our Sun), and
supermassive black holes with masses ranging from on the order of 105 to 1010 solar masses.
Additionally, there is some evidence for intermediate-mass black holes (IMBHs), those with masses of a few hundred to a few thousand times that of the Sun. These black holes may be responsible for the emission from ultraluminous X-ray sources. There is a whole lot more there, but I just want to point out that black holes have been found. Astronomers think they are formed from collapsed stars.
No, Intelligent Design says that the universe was created by a designer, not just the Earth. I’ve asked you before, who was the designer? And for you to believe this nonsense, but not believe some of the other theories we’ve been talking is truly amazing!
If you believe aliens are responsible for life on Earth, it doesn’t explain how the earth and the universe came into being. For your Mission to Mars scenario to work the life that seeded the Earth would have to be singled-celled life. But, no I’ve never seen the movie.
So you are saying you do not believe the Genesis version found in the Bible? The people who thought up Intelligent Design also think God created everything just like in the Bible, just they won’t say because they know if they do, it won’t have a chance in hell to be taught in schools. The thing you have to realized is that the IT crowd do no research. None, zip. Their main focus isn’t trying to prove IT, but to disprove evolution. Most IT proponents do dismiss evolution. A few, like Francis Collins says that evolution is real, but God directed it.
I’ve NEVER heard that “under god” was removed from the pledge and that kids couldn’t say it. There was a court case that was originally won, but the Court of Appeals throw it out. Do you know that the original Pledge of Allegiance did not have “under god” in it. It was changed around 1954. Also, not all courts require witnesses to swear on the bible, and if you have a problem with it, you can also take an oath without using the bible, you can just swear to tell the truth.
You’ll have to tell me what gravity is, because what you described is what I said, we know how gravity acts, that’s why we know how much something will weigh on other planets, but we don’t know what it is.
The Universe is expanding in ALL directions at the same rate. Your kiddy pool experiment, by kicking the side of the pool, would have the Universe expand in only a few directions. I’ll stick with the Big Bang theory.
Yes, I do understand the Big Bang theory. Here’s a little bit about it from Discovery.com:
According to the reigning Big Bang theory, the universe began as an infinitely hot, dense dot. Within a tiny fraction of a second, the cosmos underwent a period of runaway expansion, called inflation. Over billions of years, the universe cooled, giving rise to galaxies, stars, and planets. Today, 13.7 billion years after the Big Bang, the universe continues to expand and in fact is speeding up under the influence of a mysterious energy force. If things keep going this way, the future of the universe looks bleak: Stars will burn out, galaxies will disintegrate, and the universe will end eternally dark and lifeless. This theory leaves many unknowns hanging. It does not explain why the Big Bang happened and what, if anything, existed before. It also does not explain the nature of the unidentified energy field that is causing our universe to accelerate.
I think if it has sound scientific principals to it, I have not problem with it being taught in schools. I agree, it should be taught as a scientific theory and I believe it is. But if it’s religion masked as science, no!
