Big K, those are good 'supplemental' plans but as for being a main focus of the restoration of Kittanning, they lack a (do I dare say) gimmick or attraction.

Kittanning is already a beautiful area. The park itself is a great place to get away for a nice stroll but that alone (along with any beautification projects) won't attract visitors and, in turn, business.

The native american/revolutionary war theme is an excellent one. Granted it's because of the magnitude of the battle that was waged, but just look at the number of visitors to Gettysburg each year, month and even day. As humans, we are enthralled by thinking of the past - how the people survived, how they lived, etc, etc.

Another idea would be to create a 'fantasy camp' environment. I know of people who have spent BIG $$$$ on going to a 'dude' ranch in the midwest to 'play' cowboy for a week. Armstrong county is a good hunting area. Maybe create something where people can go to 'rough it' for a week (all within safety confines of course). You might create a good 'draw'...

You need look no further than the popularity of reality TV shows such as Survivor to see that the general public is interested.

This thread is going in the right direction...
