: Did anyone read the comment Jobs made in Barron's magazine this week about the #1 problem in education today? He says its teachers unions. One of his best quotes goes like this , , no small business would ever start up if all the employees hired could never be terminated for bad or poor performance , and that is one of the big problems today in education. Just another comment that kind of ties in with the school building fiasco in Armstrong SD. Its not all buildings , large or small , its the quality of input going into the kids.

This is so true. Steve is on to something. I've said before that the problem we have with schools is the lack of competition. It's the same with teachers positions. There are lots of good teachers, but there are lots of bad ones. We don't have to settle for poor teaching, bad role models, etc if only we could get rid of them. But we can't because of nepotism and unions. Their asses are covered for almost anything. Just look at the big stink it causes when we start talking about testing teachers abilities.
