: : : I keep hearing all this talk about minimum wage. "You can't live on minimum wage" everyone says. You just can't support a family on it. That's understandable, but I think it's possible to support a family on minimum wage, but I think it's impossible to do so at 40 hours per week. With that said, I was wondering what the average work week really is for readers of this board. I'll bet if I would have kept a log, I'd have averaged 70-75 hrs per week for the last 11 years. What's your average?
: : I am retired but your workweek would be at least 10 hrs. a day, 7 days a week. Either you are well off or should be looking for something else.
: You're right, I'm well off, but I wouldn't be if I hadn't worked this much all along. Maybe I'd fall quickly if I didn't maintain this schedule as well. I have no idea how much I make per hour, but I'll bet it's a lot less than minimum many many weeks out of the year. I guess my question is, do people really expect a 40 hr week to be sufficient to provide for all they want in life?
a 40 hr a week job should pay enough to live on comfortably, sure there might be some weeks where you work 50 or more but a person should not have to work 60-70 hours every week. You get old real fast doing that. If you have kids , you would never see them or have much time with your wife and time to relax and do the things you want to do. You only make one trip and when it is over you don't get another ride ticket.
