: : : : : What do you think would happen to a teacher if he or she brought a gun into school? Is there equal justice for students and teachers?
: : :
: : : : I think the school has to much authority. And I will bet any one that there are teacher's who carry a weapon in their purse for protection.I know two that doe's.But they have permission from the school board to do so. I think the boy with the plastic water gun should have told his teacher his intent and got permission.Yes the punishment was way to harsh.
: : : Common sense tells you that the board was wrong. But , there is the "zero tolerance policy", it was instiuted for a reason and the board had little choice in what they did.If you start making exceptions then things get out of hand, give an inch some people will take a mile. It is an unfortunate but necessary evil of our school system today.
: : From what I heard the rules say if it could cause harm. What harm does a large plastic squirt gun cause? Don't bring a lunch box because you could hit someone over the head with it and cause harm. There has to be limits. If itlooked like a real gun. If the teacher said in the assignment "Bring in things that are special to you but don't bring anything that resembles a weapon" I could understand but get real.
: There are school shootings and everyone clamors - we have to stop this. They institute a policy and people bitch about that. The kid is 11 years old , well beyond the age of reason. I am sure the kids know there is a policy, the parents know it, he violated it, too bad.
: It is just like anything else, sometimes one slips through the cracks, but you have to have laws, limits, maybe it will save him from a bigger problem in the future and surely should serve as an example to other kids. You have to be consistent in enforcement of your policies.
I believe if you have a policy in effect you have to adhere to it. But their discipline is way out of line. it is past ridiculos. Don't laugh at the spelling. The Government is way to involved with the school system for the small % of cost they foot. They choose the stupidest things to enforce with severity, yet others they let go. Bullies are a great example. My daughter was recently bullied on the school bus by no less than four kids. It was reported to the principal of the middle school. each time he promised me he would address. He gave the kids demerits. That crap don't work. suspend them or expel them. They let that crap go on but if a kid brings a large orange squirt gun to school he gets expelled for I believe a year..Give me a break
