: : : : : The only cameras I've read about were those being placed in the county jail for video conferencing for arraignments, etc so that the prisoners do not have to be transported for them. Where did you hear about the cameras for Kittanning Borough? I can hardly think there is a need for them there. : : : : Dear one, the cameras are going to be installed in the park, someone was doing some ruinous things there and there was grant money available and council agreed to use it to cut down on the criminal action there, ok? : : : : : : Yes, the cameras are to be put up in the park to deter vandalism, mainly in the restrooms and othe structures. They got the money from them from some sort of grant, I'm not sure what kind. Probably a CDBG. Here's where the B.S. lies. : : : When the park was built, it was built with one of these grants. SUPPOSEDLY, the only thing we could do with any of this money is spend it on the proposed project. Since then various nearby communities have used money from grants, in part or in whole to fund OTHER projects that were not associated with the originally proposed project. : : : Back when the park was began I remember we got this HUGE grant for it. I think it was 6 million, others I talk to said we got 11 million for the park. : : : Now don't get me wrong. The park is definately beautiful. But this amount of money could have done so many BETTER things for us. But we were told by council that money was earmarked for the park and that's all it could be used for. : : : Another thing about this GRANT money....it is still TAX money whether it comes from the state or federal govt. We see this park here and say "oh, that's okay...grant money." : : : Guess what...in some other little town their building a playground...with grant money, and in yet another...they're building a library. All, state of the art because it's "FREE" grant money. : : : The grant money comes from tax dollars and should not be thrown around like lottery winning. : : : Just because the Park wasn't paid for out of the taxes we paid the borough, doesn't mean that we didn't pay for it. We paid for it through State and federal taxes...as did every other American taxpayer. If we...and the town that builds the plaground, and the library would spend the money as if it was coming out of our own pockets, we wouldn't have such high taxes. : : : Another "problem" involving grant money, if it is not used, it goes back. So we sit and watch our council members make a mad dash to spend it all. : : : The project may be completed and they might have another $10,000 left. Rather than let it go back, they will try to find something else to waste it on. Most recently, the council had some money left over in the trail fund. Did they give it back? NOOO!! Piluso used it to buy those garbage cans you see on the trail (I guess she had already bought every SIGN they had for sale). : : : It was a while back but I remember she paid some astronomical amount for each of them. I think they were something like $1,200....EACH!!!! : : : : so let me get this straight. grant money comes from..... wait a minute. where does it come from again? : Phil, you are one of the problems of Armstrong County, get an education so you can keep up with the board.
