: Next world superpower? I saw on the news where they are building a city the size of Philadelphia daily. They have 500 car companies and are going to start selling cars in the U.S. in 2007.They graduate and employ 5 times a s many engineers every year than we do.They have everything we do, only newer. They have millions in their military, they have ships and planes unlike many other countries. They are producers, we are consumers.

Remember all this the next time you are at Walmart trying to save 13 cents on a hammer. Remember that Walmart probably just forced a hammer company in Wisconsin to start having their hammers made in China because they could get them 3 cents cheaper.
The only reason they are such huge "producers" as you call them is because we buy all their shit. Take the U.S. out of the picture and all their companies (or at least alot of them) will go under.
GM just laid off 30,000 employees today and they aren't even selling their cars here yeat. Just wait until you can buy a full size Chinese car here for $5,000. Think that's unreasonable? Check out how cheap the Chinese dirtbikes are selling for. Sure they're junk, but they're about 1/4 the price of a Jap bike, and the Jap streetbikes are about 1/3 the price of a Harley.
The only answer I can see is to start slappin huge tariffs on everything imported from any other country. At least enough to make them cost the same as an equivalent U.S. made product.
You're right, a country of pure consumers cannot survive.
