: : : : : : I read a message on here that I found interesting. Someone seemed upset that the cow has been changed, as it was a tradition of Kittanning. Everyone is entitled to post their opinion of course, but I beg this person, and people like them to consider this - a child, born today, in Kittanning. Maybe they'll grow up, seeing the cow painted red, white and blue, until the day when they accept it as their "Kittanning Tradition". There are a *lot* of real cows in this area, and quite a few cow statues. Cows really are a symbol of this area. But why would anyone be angry that a statue in the shape of a cow has been painted in such a way as to represent America as a whole? Whether or not you're a true "patriot", or approve of the war in Iraq, or approve of the politicians in office, the facts are the same - this is where we live. In America, where our colors are red, white, and blue. If you believe America isn't something to be proud of, that other places are better, you're free to go there. But while you're in America, why complain about someone decorating in the colors that represent our country?
: : : : : : As far as tradition goes, traditions change every day. New ones are made and old ones broken. I'm grateful that this one changed in the way it did - the cow stayed, keeping a little of the old, but the colors changed in a new way. What does this say about Kittanning? One could almost say it implies that Kittanning itself is moving in a new direction - yeah, we're still a little old fashioned, and we like that. But we're not ignorant to the present, and today's issues on a wider scale.

: : : : : And living in this great country gives us choices , we can approve or not- right of free speech and I think probably the owner painted it that way because the military tradition runs in the family. If you notice there are fewer flags flying on cars than at the beginning of the mistake in Iraq. This area is behind in many things, jobs, education and etc. It is a nice quait area and I hope the rwb cow is there for many years.

: : : : I wrote the post about me being a traditionalist at heart. I certainly am not "upset" because the cow changed. I simply liked the "cow colors" better. It has nothing to do with politics...I would feel the same if it was painted purple, pink, or polka dot. I just liked the way the cow looked. Just my opinion.
: : : I am taking the side for Mel's in this one, unless they are expert marketing gurus.
: : : The vast right-wing, religious nuts tried to squelch Mel's attempts to become a business. They proclaimed that Mels' serving alcohol would sprout values of indecency throughout the community.
: : : I am happy that they painted it red-white-blue, because I do believe in those colors, and they have meaning.....freedom. This is not the meaning associated with this new religious sect(do as I say, not as I do approach). They are the biggest hypocrites in the county.
: : : Good luck to Mel's!!!!! I will be buying pizza, wings and BEER there despite the unfair tactics and allegations brought against them. I hope this business does well!!!!
: : : I do not care what color they paint their cow; the so-called judges over society were brought a heavy blow when it was decided Mel's could open. This does have nothing to do with Iraq, but it has a lot to do with the "moral majority" looking through sanctimonious glasses.
: : : Do not throw rocks at a glass house.
: : :
: : : Mels', I hope you prosper and those others will learn over time that their houses are not that stable, either.
:
: : H-o-l-y poop!!!....Did you just say something didn't have anything to do with Iraq???
: : Watch out 'Lizabeth...this is the big one!!!
: As you see, comments from one of the glass house members. My life does not revolve around Iraq, but I will speak up as a veteran against this administration that has placed our troops in grave danger without the intent of defending this country.
: Like I said, the people that support this war effort in Iraq can do so while sitting home in a comfy home. They sit at their kitchen tables dunking their Oreos into kool-aid and think of war in the same manner as watching a John Wayne movie.
: You want me to talk about it. I will. You can try and make a joke of it all you want, but you do not worry me. This current administration is finally getting the exposure they have warranted, being a miserable failure.
There it is! I knew ya had it in ya!
Oreos and Kool-Aid?
