: : : We were discussing the different changes to could maybe help the downtown area. What do you think of demolishing a block or two in the downtown area to provide parking for Market St. Sounds radical, I know, but do you think this could promote the downtown area. It seems parking is always one of the major problems. After this parking space is placed into the downtown section, part of Market St. could be shut off to vehicle traffic. People could walk to the individual stores, and it would not be that far of a walk at all. This could possibly be used a means to generate more business to the downtown section, while keeping the small-town feel of things. The downtown area would be more of a plaza section for shopping and eating. it seems the parking and the traffic is one of the major obstacles.

: : : Any other ideas?

: :
: : Who volunteers to get their building knocked down while others stay? There doesn't seem to be anyone that interested to move into Kittanning. Mel's is moving out.But I could be wrong, maybe like the Field of Dreams, build it and they will come.

: I agree with you. I am not sure if the town could take it on as an investment. It is all hypothetical, but something to maybe think about. I think the overall spread of the downtown would need to be considered and from there the decisions could be made as to how to restructure the plan.

: I am not sure this would generate multitudes of businesses, but I am thinking about something unique that would seperate Kittanning from other towns in the area. I do know there have been major parking problems with the merchants and the borough in the downtown area. I was thinking that better accessibility would attract more businesses or people who would like to start businesses. People could walk to the different stores and the also may be more likely to stop in at an eatery during their time in town.

: Just an idea to throw out there.

: I think Ford City could look at the same concept with their project on Ford St.**********Tear down the lower end of town and build a "Super Wal Mart" and a"Home Depot"
