: : : : From what you read it seems the school board is pushing hard for the citizens to reject this. Even if $246 is all we get back it is better than nothing, sure there will be a .1 increase but that is far below the $246. From what I understand the school board does not want to give the taxpayers the right to vote in a referendum on a tax increase because they know the taxpayers won't vote for an increase. So they are using fear to keep the taxpayers at bay much like Bush and the boys do. I say vote yes and put some power back in the hands of the taxpayers.

: : : I guess if we attend the forum on April 14th, we can ask questions then. The STOP group that wants to abolish taxes completely is against this act. Wonder why?
: : They are against the .1 increase, they want no increases and they want no taxes. I think they feel this measure will take peoples minds off their movement. At his point I think any decrease is better than none. Everyone would be happy with no taxes but I don't see that as a reality at this time.
: I have NO IDEA why the STOP people would be against it. They claim it would make it harder to eliminate property tax completely. This simply cannot be. Also, and this is VERY IMPORTANT.. The amount the earned income tax MUST be raised is NOT .10 but .10%. This amounts to $1 for every $1000 earned per year. If a person earns $40K per year then thier taxes would increase by $40. They claim that on the LOW end we could expect $240 per homeowner in property tax reduction from slots revenue, yet somehow they figure that the income tax increase will offset the propperty tax reduction. The way I see it, I'm ahead at least $200, and the school board can no longer raise my property taxes without a referendum.
Had E. Nuff....not questioning me, because you seem to know this proposal better than me, but the school board can still raise taxes without a referendum, correct? Doesn't the referendum have to meet certain criteria? From what I have read, the referendum would only come into play when the budget would exceed past the solvency of the district.
Could you explain the referendum part to me?
