: : : : : How bout this? Why don't they just switch the county and school taxes from a property tax system, where people stand to lose thier homes, to a per capita tax system. I just got BOTH taxes in the mail. Why not eliminate property taxes, and simply spread the tax liability EVENLY over the # of people or in the county? The system is already in place, all they would have to do would be raise the amount from the $14.51 per capita it is now to whatever each person's share would be.

: : : :
: : : : Why would people that don't own property want to pay a tax for someone that does? If a person is a renter the landlord includes the property tax in the rent so why should they pay twice? I doubt any landlord would drop the rent accordingly.

: : :
: : : Whether they want to pay it or not, it's THIER share. Why should funding the school district be the sole responsibility of those who own property? If the landlords don't make the adjustments that is up to the renters to dispute. You hit the nail on the head, the people who own property ARE paying the taxes for those who don't!

: : Not everyone can afford to own their own house. So I guess punish them for that... And as a renter by paying rent, which the landlord has adjusted cause of the tax increases, I feel I pay my fair share..

:
: No, they should not be punished, they should pay thier EQUAL share. If it wasn't for property tax your landlord wouldn't have had to raise your rent. What you are saying is that either way, you are paying your share. I live in a simple house in Kittanning and am paying $2300 total in property tax. Divide that by 12...are you paying that much of your rent toward property tax? Why should I have to pay more than you to live in my own home. That is if you PAY rent. I noticed you are a strong advocate of section 8 housing, which MY taxes pay for, AND as YOU said, rent is adjusted to pay property tax. So in your case I guess I'm paying for both your rent and the property tax owed on the property.....
: That sounds fair!

: First off, I am not on Section 8. I think you are assuming I am. I believe that people may need a little help along the way. And yes I'm sure people abuse Section 8 BUT not eveyone abuses the system. But you tell me what goverment program is run without some form of abuse in it. I also pay taxes, maybe not property tax, but I pay...
