I agree that the school system needs help, moreso in ideas and implementation than money.

Do schoolteachers need a paycheck? Yes. Do they need to be accountable? Again, yes. If any teacher has to spend 20% or more of his or her time remediating students, the kids' teacher from the previous year should be warned with appropriate dialogue between the union and school administration.

Second year, probation.

Third year, someone should go hunting for good replacement teachers.

: Well the Xmas post got a few comments so maybe this one will too. Does it seem to you our school board never does anything other than to order this study or that one, we never seem to have any concrete decisions made. It seems our schools are wallowing in mediocrity. They make a big deal about x number of students furthering their education but fail to tell you most of these students need remedial English and math classes before they can even start college classes. I bet if you would take an application form for a job from a local comapny into the school and give it to the seniors to fill out, less than 25% would fill it out correctly. Our schools are not doing the job they are intended to do.Maybe socially but not scholastically. Oh, I have seen all these test results , I have seen my children's when they were in school and grandchildrens too that they are doing work three grade levels above where they are and 92% of the kids nationwide are below them but somehow the work produced is not proving this to be true. What do you think?
